Job

Portfolio Manager at Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), responsible for managing Crown land in the South Island High Country.

Job description

Work with government agencies, interest groups and high country farmers to make sure that Crown land in the High Country is being managed in the best way it can, for the benefit of New Zealand. We manage a range of activities in the mountains including farming, hunting, snow sports and music festivals, and even manage Tenure Review of pastoral lease land, which can result in the creation of conservation land as well as freehold titles.

With the support of LINZ, I am also finishing a Master’s degree in GIS. I am lucky to be able to use this knowledge in my job in the High Country, and also to contribute to the rebuild of Canterbury through the Canterbury Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) work.

Work background

I have been at LINZ for six years, first as a survey dataset examiner, and most recently as a Portfolio Manager for Crown land in the High Country.

Prior to working for LINZ I studied at the University of Canterbury and worked as a building fire compliance inspector.

Favourite parts of the job

  • I love meeting such a diverse range of people, right from the boardroom to the farm gate.
  • I also get to see some rugged and beautiful parts of the country, and I can’t complain about the horse treks and helicopter rides!

Least favourite parts of the job

I honestly can’t think of anything – I love my job!

Bachelor of Arts – University of Canterbury

Interests outside of work
